Day One

Today we visited three houses, one in Rouvres-les-Vignes and two in Colombe-la-Fosse in the Aube, west of Troyes.

The village of Rouvres-les-Vignes is located about 4.5 km from the right bank of the Aube river and has 101 hectares planted with Pinot Noir 76%, Pinot Meunier 13%, Chardonnay 10% and less than 1% other varieties.  Most of the vineyards are on mild south- and southeast-facing slopes.

The village of Colombé-la-Fosse is located on the right bank of Aube river and has 108.5 hectares planted with Pinot Noir 63%, Pinot Meunier 20%, Chardonnay 16% and less than 1% other varieties.  The vineyards are located in the village most of which are south facing.

Nathalie Falmet, Rouvres-les-Vignes

Nathalie Falmet is a winegrower & oenologist who studied chemistry before graduating in oenology in Reims.  She then took over the family estate of 3.40 hectares which is managed with sustainable cultivation on higher Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soil where grape varieties, soils and specific plots of land express themselves naturally. Together with different methods of winemaking, they produce a variety of cuvees including Le Val Cornet.  This single vineyard site is a mild southeast-facing slope to the northeast of the village.  We toured with Nathalie and tasted her wines and some of her husband’s, Gilbert Lesuerre.
